When you think of witchcraft you might be thinking of witches from fairy tails. Witches that are evil with long thin noses and lots of warts. You might think that witches only practice dark magick, cast curses and poison people.
Well those thought aren't necessarily true.
Of course witches can be evil and have warts, but that counts for anybody!
There are witches that are into dark magick, but the vast majority doesn't practice dark magick at all.
So then what is witchcraft?
Witchcraft is an ancient practice. One of the earliest records of a witch is written between 900 and 700 B.C. but it's safe to say that witchcraft is way older than that.
Witchcraft is the practice if manipulating energy to produce a desired result. There are many different types of doing this, and there are many different paths a witch can follow. I always say that everybody walks their own spiritual path. Some witches are religious and some aren't, so one witch might be working with god(s) while others might not be working with god(s) at all.
I absolutely love that every witch is so diverse.
Even though everybody practices witchcraft differently there are still some common grounds between witches.

One of them is their respect for nature. You often find witches honoring the earth, celebrating the cycle of the seasons and using energy and items from the nature in their craft. Many witches believe that every living thing on the planet has a spirit or a unique energy pattern.
Wicca and witchcraft, what is the difference?
The answer is extremely easy.
Wicca is a religion and witchcraft is a practice.
Okay so now you might be thinking uhm okay?.. What does that mean?
Wicca is a religion, that means that (almost) everybody believes in the same things. Religions also have rules and standards that everybody has to follow. Take the rule of three for example. Many Wiccans believe that if you harm someone it comes back in threefold.
Witchcraft is a practice.
Anybody can practice witchcraft. You don't have to be religious to practice witchcraft and to be a witch. Not everybody who practices witchcraft believe in the same things or follow the same rules. Of course there are some guidelines in how to practice witchcraft, like for example how to cleanse, the properties of different items etc. But as long as you're not in a circle or coven you don't really have to follow any rules except your own.
So not every witch is religious or a Wiccan, but all wiccans are witches since they all practice witchcraft.
There are also many other religions that witches can have. You can basically be a part of any religion and be a witch.
I think this is one of the reasons why I liked practicing witchcraft so much. You have to think about what
you believe in and what feels good for
you, instead of following rules that are (basically) already set in stone.
Can anybody become a witch?
The answer is...
YES
Anybody can be a witch. Whether you are a male or female, old or young etc.
Anybody who practices witchcraft is a witch. You don't get born a witch, you decide to become one.
You might have seen posts online or you might have been told 'if you possess these qualities you might be a witch' or 'signs that you are a witch'. Those things are complete bogus!
Nobody is born a witch. Some witches might have ancestors that were witches too, but that doesn't mean that you can't practice witchcraft if you don't have that.
There are some qualities that witches might possess. Like most witches are more in tune with nature, a lot of witches have a very good intuition and some witches are empaths. This doesn't mean that if you can't relate to them that you can't be a witch!
Witchcraft isn't called a practice because of nothing. Witchcraft is something you should
practice. Anybody can learn witchcraft even though it might be easier for some as for others.
See it as a skill. Some people are more talented at drawing or music as others. That doesn't mean others can't do it.
I hope that this helps some people realize that they can practice witchcraft.
I believe in you and so should you!
